APPA Awards are presented for prints that meet critera including impact, print quality, presentation, originality and more. Prints are judged by a panel of experienced judges. A judging panel typically consists of five judges with one or two alternate judges. If a judge knows the maker of the print, the judge will excuse himself from scoring that print and one of the alternates will step in and judge in his/her place. Judges are typically chosen to score a category of prints that reflects the judges field of expertise. Whenever there is at least a ten point difference between the highest and lowest scores, the image is automatically "challenged and is re-scored after a discussion period when each judge is allowed to present his/her reasons for their score. There are five categories with the top three scoring prints receiving awards. Additionally, the total score of the photographer's print case is used to determine the APPA Photographer of the Year & the "Arizona Top Ten". Winning the title Arizona Photographer of the year was Dan Hammel with this year's top print case score wth a total of 334. Great case Dan!! Dan also won the American Society of Photographers Elite Award! The rest of the AZ Top Ten and their case scores were Rick Lofgreen 329, Dwight Smith 324, Bob Coates 322, Philip Ramackers 320, Kay Eskridge 320, Jeff Colling 320, Linda Story 316, Pam Spicer 315. The Newcomer Award was presented to Jarrid Rockman with a score of 316. Congratulations Jarred! Start working on your print case for next year and see YOU at the Awards banquet. |
