How long have you been a photographer? When and how did you get started? How did you learn photography?

I'd tell you sappy story of my parents giving me my first camera at the age of 2 like all the other photographers, but this is simply not true! In high school I enjoyed photography and my Senior year I started photographing portraits of underclassmen. I was lucky and a few of the photos turned out decent.

My interest in photography peaked while taking a commercial photography class in college. I learned photography by making a ton of mistakes and my assisting and mentoring with other professional photographers. Refining the craft of photography is a lifelong process which we should all work on every day.

What is your specialty?

Most of my work is commercial, advertising or public relations related. Much of this involves specific concepts to build a business's brand often involving portraiture. I do photograph a limited amount of weddings. My studio works as a business partner with f.ferguson photographers as our combine forces are better than each of us on our own. (It's sort of like two superheros in a movie, but without the movie & without the hero part)

What are your goals for your business?

My goals for business are the same as yours, don't fail and get rich. (or maybe just pay the bills and make a profit.) Continue expanding the business is a goal as is balancing family life through working smarter.

What has been your most successful marketing effort to date?

Engaging with others on the Internet and using social media to facilitate face to face networking. While this is not a specific effort it's one leg of my marketing but has worked great to promote my brand.

Why did you join the AzPPA? What has been the best thing you have gotten out of being a member? Or what do you look forward to the most out of being a member?

I joined AzPPA for the free Tshirt years ago, but I found a great group of friends. The print competition made me realize that I had a long ways to go and pushed me to perfect my craft. The annual convention is one of the best and it made me forget about never getting my free Tshirt.
